What to expect

The Kearney Church of Christ is a community where you will encounter truth and love in a casual setting. Our gatherings are positive, encouraging, inspirational and most importantly, focused on God.

Sunday Morning
Bible Class: On Sunday mornings we meet at 9:30 for bible classes. The classes are divided by age so that everyone, children through adults can learn in an environment and on a level that is appropriate for them. Some classes are topical in nature, while other classes will simply study the bible verse by verse. Adult classes are conversational and relaxed. You may choose to join the discussion, ask questions, or simply listen.

Worship: At 10:30, the whole church meets together in the auditorium (or sanctuary) for worship. This worship time is typically about an hour and ten minutes long. You will not be called on or singled out in any way, so relax and feel free to participate wherever you are comfortable.

Singing: Singing is led by one of the men of the congregation. Everyone is encouraged to sing. There is no choir, and no piano or band playing along - only singing.

Prayer: At certain times, one of the men will be asked to pray out loud while the rest of the church prays silently.

Communion: Will be offered to anyone who wishes to take it. A tray containing a cracker (unleavened bread) will be passed down each pew. You may break off a piece and eat it if you wish, or simply pass it on. Another tray containing small cups of grape juice will be passed. Again, you may take one or simply pass it on. These are intended to remind believers of the body and blood of Jesus which were given as a sacrifice on the cross.

Offering: Another tray will be passed to allow members to give money to support the work of the church. No one is required to give. They do  so only out of love and a desire to help with the financial needs of the church.

Sermon: Our Minister, Greg Clark or a guest speaker will teach from the Bible. The sermon will be practical, encouraging and challenging and is typically about 30 minutes long.

Invitation: At the close of each worship time, there will be an invitation. The whole church will be asked to stand and sing a song and pray together. Some may walk to the front and ask for prayers of support and encouragement. Some may ask to be baptized during this time. Others will just use this time to quietly reflect on what the message means to them.

Sunday Evening
Worship: Our Sunday evening gathering looks much like the Sunday morning worship hour. Sunday evening gatherings are usually much smaller and more intimate and personal. Many people look forward to this gathering precisely because it is a smaller, closer group.

Wednesday Night
Bible Classes: Wednesday is the middle of the week and a great time to come together again for a recharge! The Wednesday night gathering is very informal, consisting of a 10-15 minute devotional time (singing, praying, reading from the bible) about 10 minutes of fellowship (food & conversation) and 30 minutes of bible study. It’s a wonderful, encouraging time that’s designed to give you spiritual boost right when you need it.
