OUR BACKGROUND
The Church of Christ originated in what is called the "Restoration Movement". The original goal was to restore the church as close as possible to the worship, doctrine and teachings of New Testament times. Realizing that this may not be 100% possible, the New Testament was used as the inerrant guide and example. This seemed to be the best possible pattern.
Churches of Christ today try to simply maintain those standards and practices begun in the days of the apostles and copied be our brethren just 200 years ago. We simply want to be a Bible centered Bible teaching church. However some of our practices are influenced by modern day life and technology where there is no specific Bible teaching to copy.
All Churches or Christ are independent of each other. Local congregations are led by elders just as the congregations in the book of Acts. Our preacher does not wear a title such as pastor or reverend. He has been educated and trained at a Christian college and has many years of experience.
OUR WORSHIP
Our worship consists of teaching, singing, praying, participating in the communion, also called the Lord's Supper and Bible centered preaching.
Our singing is acapella, which means without instrumental accompaniment. This we believe is the closest we can come to the New Testament worship service. There is no mention of any instruments used in the worship of the church in the New Testament. Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16.
We take the Lord's Supper every Sunday just as he first century church did. Acts 20:7
OUR PREACHING
Our preaching is Bible centered and follows God's word as close as we can.
We believe that salvation is through obedience to the will of God. Thus infants do not need salvation because they are not lost. Being lost from God is by a person's sins. We believe that infants have no sins and do not need forgiveness. It is because of our individual sins that we stand condemned. Our Lord Jesus purchased our sins on the cross and made it possible for us to stand some day in God's presence saved.
Being saved from our sins involves Hearing God's word - Romans 10:17 Matthew 7:24-27 Believing in God and His son Jesus. - Hebrews 11:6, Mark 16:15-16 Repenting of our sins - Acts 2:38, Acts 17:30 and Luke 13:3
Confessing - Matthew 10:32-33, Acts 8:36-37 Baptism - Acts 2:38, Mark 16:15-16, Acts 22:16, Galatians 3:26-27, Colossians 2:12 and I Peter 3:2021
God then adds those that are being saved to His Church. Acts 2:47. We read nothing about denominations in the New Testament. There was just one church and that was God's church. Remaining faithful to God - Revelation 2:10
